The Real Deal About Eyelash Extensions: Yay or Nay?

Mine is not too long but the subtle difference is
noticeable :)
So I have heard a lot about eyelash extensions and it's becoming a widely known trend recently. Two of my friends from work tried it out and I decided to tag along and I can say that I'm generally satisfied with the results. I had mine done at Stylash Manila (they have two branches, SM BF Paranaque and Landmark Makati). So after having my extensions for a few days, here are some pros and cons that I have noted, let's start with the pros:

1. Your eyes will look bigger and noticeable feminine
The difference is very noticeable. Have you ever thought why you envy little children who have long lashes, it's because it's one of the first things that we notice in a person's face as we look at his/her eyes. Having long eyelashes will make you look more feminine and lesser makeup application for you since you don't need to put on mascara to lengthen your lashes.

2. You eyes will appear brighter and younger-looking even without makeup on
Do your eyes look tired when you don't have makeup on (concealer and such?) then extensions are for you since eyelashes make your eyes look more "open" and hides the sleepy eyelid creases.

3. No need to put on mascara
Which means lesser time doing your makeup (and therefore, more efficiency). Need I say more? It's also optional to put on eyeliner since the thick eyelashes also somehow lines the edges of your eyes.

Having said the pros, I will now discuss the cons of eyelash extensions.

1. You need to be extra careful with your eyes from now on
You cannot just rub your eyes if you feel like it. I know most of us don't do that when we have makeup on but it's even harder since you can't do it even without makeup.

2. It's somewhat difficult to manage taking a bath
The eyelashes accumulate water and if you close your eyes some water droplets get into the eyes. You cant just rub or wipe your eyes and you have to do it carefully.

3. There are lots of restrictions and maintenance is needed
You can't be in a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, or any steamed/humid environment as this weakens the glue in your eyelash extensions. Oil-based makeup removers are also not recommended. You also have to do regular maintenance (refills of those lashes that wore off) if you want to keep them.

One of Stylash's pretty interiors! I can relate to the 1st wall picture since the whole process
of eyelash extensions are pretty tiring (both to me and the cosmetologist).
Having said all of those, I think having eyelash extensions are worth a try (even once) since I am really pleased with the results. The only fallback of this trend is the high maintenance that comes with it. Perhaps someday they should invent a technology where eyelash extensions are easier to maintain and lasts longer? Have fun with your eyelash extensions!

Insurances are Traumatizing!

I am a CAP college education plan holder. My parents invested a sum of money under one of the most popular education plan companies in the Philippines during the early 90s. Sadly, news broke that this insurance company filed for bankruptcy even before I graduated high school. I heard that they invested their money on businesses that didn't earn much coupled with the extreme soaring of tuition fees over the years. It was very frustrating for most people, especially for my parents because it was just a couple of years short from my graduation. To top that off, I graduated high school in 2007, which was also the year where all the UP campuses pushed their TOFI (Tuition Fee and Other Increases), which made the regular tuition fee increase more than 100 percent for some. I had a usual tuition fee of around 20,000 pesos which was supposed to be only somewhere along 7,000 or 8,000 hadn't the TOFI been approved.

However, God, being the great Provider that He is, made a way through the help of my grandparents who funded a portion of my education. I am just really blessed but I keep thinking about those families and aspiring college students who depended on their CAP to provide for their financial needs in education. I even heard this anecdote that there was a man in the CAP office (this was during the time where news of bankruptcy recently broke) who was shouting loud, as in nagwawala, due to the education plan that they won't be able to claim.

That's why I really find insurances traumatizing nowadays, though some people tell me that I should invest in a really good and trusted company. I will, maybe sooner or later but I'm trying to ward off these thoughts in my head, do research and look at the latest news and trends of the insurance company that I will invest on. I guess the lesson to be learned here is know where to invest and invest wisely. I scanned through an article below and it really gave practical tips on choosing a good insurance company:

Are you investing on insurance? Why or why not?

Accepting Changes

Credit: http://thisisindexed.com

I recently discovered myself to be a very rigid person in terms of my schedule. If there's a hint of OC-ness in me, it would be in that area. I noticed that I am easily upset when things don't go as I planned or expected it to be, no matter how mundane it is. I'll give you an example. It will make me agitated that I won't be able to buy a toothpaste in a convenient store on a Tuesday and I have to buy it on a Wednesday. I am that shallow. When people cancel on me when I invite them to do things, or unexpected circumstances changes my plans it greatly upsets me as well.

Over time, I have learned to accept changes no matter how big or small they are. I have to accept that the only constant thing in life aside from God's love is change. There are quite a handful of changes that I experienced lately over a short period of time. Some of them hurt me. Some of them were okay. Some of them were good changes. But in the end, all is well. I am okay despite those changes. I know that through changes I am growing, learning and unlearning. Just like an itchy caterpillar, I may be itching to find out what really is in store for me. But I have to crawl through some rough branches, eat a few apples, and get along some fellow caterpillar on my way to become an awesome, picture-worthy butterfly. And now I am curious to watch metamorphosis documentaries on of Discovery Channel on Youtube. How geeky and impulsive is that? Haha.

In this blog I have an "About Me" corner that I wrote just a few months back. I never thought that I had to erase or add some parts in a short amount of time but I guess just what I keep saying to myself: Things change. People change. Situations change. It may suck, it may be the greatest thing ever, and it's just the way it is. Learning to accept it and growing from it is the only way to make it through.

How you do deal with changes?

Because of this post, I was inspired to make a text design in my online shop:

Have you ever heard the saying that "Change is constant?", well let's put in a Mathematical perspective with this new saying which is in this item: "In Life's Equation, Change is Constant". Be inspired, and be more open to changes in your life.
