The Urban Farm: Fresh, Unique and Delicious!

I'm all in for health food. I'm all the more in if it's healthy and delicious. The Urban Farm's concept is relatively new since they emphasize that they only use organic vegetables and grass fed animals. When I visited the place with my friend, we were talking about how the restaurant was formed because the owners had an organic farm. The menu consisted mainly of meat and vegetable entrees, fresh shakes, pastas, pastries and snacks. I was really satisfied with my visit there since I could pretty much say that it's one of the best lunches I had in a long time.

In our visit, these are the items that we ordered: 2 fresh fruit shakes (strawberry and grapes), roast chicken (good for two), salmon flakes pasta and a piece of lemon bar.

I was very very satisfied and full with what we ordered considering that I was very hungry prior to our lunch. The food tasted fresh and the flavors were alive. There was not a hint of greasiness even in the roast chicken, and the shakes were made from actual fruits and not powdered flavorings. I was also satisfied with the paste because even when it was written "salmon flakes" in the menu, what we really got were "salmon chunks" and we were really happy. The lemon bar also tasted fresh and homemade. I was not able to take a picture of it, sorry! The ambiance is really nice because their motif is light green and white and it's very refreshing to the eyes. Do visit the place while it's still new! By the way, price ranges of food are from 150-400 pesos each. Shakes vary from 70-100 pesos. For me, it's a great deal considering that I enjoyed the food very much.

It isn't readable but the quote there said, "Laugh so hard that even sorrow smiles at you". Nice, huh? :)

Simple Ways to Form Good Habits

I am a lazy person by nature. It is very difficult for me to prepare early, exercise or even exert effort in those things that make me feel uncomfortable. It's really difficult when you are starting to get annoyed of your routine because there are some things you cannot change. Are you frustrated because you want to be an overall better person but you can't seem to be one because of some bad habits here and there? Here are simple ways that can help you form good habits that can improve the quality of your life.

1. Make a list
Make a list of things that you don't like about the things that you're doing, such as eating junk food, sleeping late, eating too much sweets, not exercising, lingering in the social media for too long, etc.

2. Negate the list by forming a good habit that can replace the bad ones
Now, after listing the things that you don't like, negate these things by replacing it with the good habits. For example, if eating junk food is something you don't like about yourself, replace it by a good habit such as eating healthy food or avoiding junk food.

3. In making good habits, be specific!
It is very very (I emphasize) important to be specific in setting good habits for the overall improvement of your life. It is not enough that you say that you will start eating healthy food from now on. For example, you can start being specific in this habit by specifying which times of the day would you strictly eat healthy food (e.g. breakfast and lunch). What happens when you don't become specific? You end up overlooking your goals and habits.

4. Make it visible
Another thing that helped me keep my good habits in check is to always write them in my journal. I always include them in my to-do list, such as exercising, preparing baon, drinking vitamins, tea, etc. The more you make it visible, the more room that you're allowing your mind to remember it.

5. Cut yourself some slack once in a while
Unless your bad habits involve some kind of spiritual conflict or  addiction, you must at least cut yourself some slack or rest once in a while, such as one day a week per habit. This is for you to prevent being burned out or have lack of motivation in work.

6. Dare yourself to do it in 21 days
This is the so-called popular habit dare, which asks you to form habits within 21 days. The only catch here is you have to do it 21 times each day so that the habit will be established. This is somewhat in psychology what they call "conditioning" and this is effective if I will base it on my experience since it worked for me! Now that I formed some habits that I did not use to do before, I feel very uncomfortable if I can't do it in a certain day.

7. If you slip, don't let yourself slip again
If you missed a day doing your certain good habit due to unforseen circumstances, don't let yourself slip again the next day! Push yourself if you have to, so that the habit won't be gone.

Finding Meaning in the Mundane

Yesterday morning, my mom asked to sweep the leaves that fell from a bucket supposedly tumbled over by our cats. I did not respond right away as I'm not exactly a fan of household chores. It took me a while to finally gather the motivation to go outside, get the dustpan, walis tingting (a outdoor broom, in Filipino) and start gathering the leaves and place them back in the bucket.


Prior to this, my head was in a 'complaining' state. I was thinking that now it's my vacation week, I'd have some me-time and forget some of my responsibilities for a while. As I was sweeping the leaves amidst the overcast weather, the sound of the leaves scraping on the concrete, I felt a sense of peace. I felt a sense of peace because this chore, no matter how small or insignificant as it may seem, is still something done to bring glory to God. He impressed this verse upon me while sweeping:

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

Whatever I do, I must find meaning. Whether it's simply washing the dishes, brushing my teeth, working 9-5, or even boldly going to the ends of the earth for a mission trip--how big or small it is doesn't count. What counts is to Whom am I doing it for. Most of us spend time in our jobs or professions in a grumbling mindset because we forget to realize that our occupations are a blessing. I am sitting in my cubicle for a purpose, singing children's songs and patiently cuing a child to add the final "t" sound in the word "hat". You are sitting on your desk typing away documents due in the afternoon because God allowed you to be there, to bring glory to Him wherever you are. 


I guess I just meant to say that I believe we are living borrowed lives, and the One who gave it deserves to be offered sacrifices--our lives. Living our lives as a sacrifice. So big thing or small thing, let's find meaning in the great and mundane.

The Importance of Believing the Best in Love

1 Corinthians 13 is one of my favorite chapters of the whole Bible. It talks about what love is and what it is not, and it mirrors how God tries to relate to us and how we should relate to others. Out of the whole chapter, one of my favorite verses would be 7 and 8. Here is the AMP (Amplified) version:

"Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]."
1 Corinthians 13:7-8

When I was younger I did not understand what these verses meant. Until I got older and I came accross different circumstances in my life that appeared to be a testing of that verse. I was faced with a situation where I could either choose from two of these things: believing the best or assuming the worst. I guess I found this verse significant in my life and to the people I love because I have subconsciously thought that people do some things because they do it on purpose to hurt or harm me.

But you know what I realized? I realized that most of the things we are hurting from, especially those which are done by the people we love are not done on purpose. It's not what they did that matters, it's how we respond to what they did. That is why the Bible keeps telling us that love believes the best. If you love someone you will always persevere to believe the best of what he or she did. You will always think that this person did not do such things to purposefully hurt you, and that's where the other aspects of love go in, such as patience, kindness, and avoiding to keep a record of wrongs.

I realized that this way of thinking and this attitude towards others is so vital. It is so vital that it can change many relationships in an instant. We humans are afraid to be vulnerable and we go out of the world in a defensive mode. We always hurt, get angry, resent, show bitterness towards other people because deep in our minds and hearts we always assume that they do such things for the sake of making us feel that way.

But if you go out of your way, avoiding to succumb in your tendencies and try to see people the way God sees them, you will see the people around you in a different light. You will see the good heart in every person, and you will see that maybe, just maybe, you could have saved a lot of time avoiding unneccesary bitterness, heartache and resentment. Maybe you could have chosen to love instead.

This is a constant realization that I always try to preach myself everyday, but God has been patient in reminding me. If this article helped you, don't hesitate to share it to someone you love.
